Portsmouth CTC (Cycling UK) rides
Cycling UK is a national charity that promotes cycling of all kinds. The local Portsmouth group - Portsmouth CTC - runs a number of rides each week...
Every Wednesday and Saturday there is a relaxed, moderate-pace ride starting at 9:15 from The Spring, East Street, Havant. The ride is a full day of cycling (typically 6-7 hours) but many people cycle only to the elevenses stop and cycle back from there. Often the ride is split into two with the ‘fast’ group taking a hillier and/or longer route to the elevenses stop.
Every Sunday there is a faster ride starting at 9:15 from Cosham Library. The ride is a full day of cycling at a faster pace than the Saturday and Wednesday rides. Routinely, the rides have an elevenses stop, a lunch stop and a tea stop.
On alternate Sundays there are morning rides starting from various points around Portsmouth. The rides are usually small numbers cycling at a medium pace.
Every Thursday from April to September there is a ride out to a pub for a meal starting at The Spring at 7:00pm.
Portsmouth CTC also run monthly easy rides designed to introduce people to leisure riding and - in the warmer months - Tuesday rides that are longer and hillier than the other rides.
Note that Portsmouth CTC rides are open to everyone but you are expected to join Cycling UK if you want to ride more than a few times. In the meantime, you will need to sign a guest entry form. The form also has specific provisions for under-18′s.
