1991 Hayling Charity Cycle Ride

Funds raised: £15,500

Number of riders: 127

The Hayling Islander reported that 'the only person to go AWOL was Paul Mumford Landlord of The Kittiwake. He was found a few miles from the finishing point at Le Havre where he had enjoyed a three-course meal and swapped three Gales Ales T-Shirts for a stuffed duck' Mumfy had been 'forced' to go on the ride a few hours before departure by wife Pauline who threw his overnight bag and bike in the back of a support van (apparently she needed the break!).

In the autumn we saw the first Bike Ride marriage when Paul Broadhurst married Mickey Pledge. There have been other marriages since as well as the development of many strong relationships of all sorts The friendliness of the Ride has been key to its success.
