On Sunday 5th October more than 40 cyclists rode from Lyndhurst on a 43 mile route which had become a favourite for Bob over recent years. With an early start and having driven from the Hayling area a coffee stop in Beaulieu after only 7 miles of cycling was very welcome and a chance for the whole group to get together and to see who had come along.
The route then went via Bucklers Hard and Pilley then via Sandy Brow and Brockenhurst, through the woods around Rhinefield House before heading north towards Fritham and then South to the Green Dragon at Brook for lunch. The short ride back to Lyndhurst took longer for those who stopped in town for a further coffee break before getting back into their vehicles for the return drive home.
It was great to see so many of Bob’s friends together and to raise a glass in his memory.
Heartfelt thanks to all involved in organising and participating.
The picture above was taken October 2013 a few hundred yards from the start in Lyndhurst when the RobRoy route was being documented. Many many years and thousands of miles before then we were young and getting into the cycling “thing” by going down the Billy Trail:
